My Interview with Robert Englund on Nerd Bastards

A-Nightmare-on-Elm-StreetThe National Fan Expo is coming up next weekend with the usual fanfare. I’ve been attending this event regularly since 2006, and it’s been amazing to see if it grow from a smaller event with lots of wiggle room in the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to being something that’s jam-packed and takes over the whole darn building. It’s now, essentially, the Canadian Comic Con

In preparation, the publicists of Fan Expo have arranged interviews with some of the celebrity guests, and I seemed to have drawn Robert Englund. Now, Englund is an accomplished actor, but he’s best known for his seven appearances as the evil Freddy Krueger from the A Nightmare on Elm Street series of films. 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of Nightmare and Englund will appear at Fan Expo with co-stars Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon to have a sort of reunion.

To be honest, Englund is probably one of the best interviews I’ve ever had. He was quite warm, energetic and funny and I don’t think I even got through half of my questions for him before our time was up. Despite a technical hiccup, it was a lot of fun. I’ve never seen Englund at a con Q&A before, but I have no doubt that he kills it.
